A team of researchers from The Cyprus Institute (CyI), in collaboration with the Athienou Municipality, the Kallinikeio Municipal Museum of Athienou, the “Athienou Archaeological Project” and the Larnaka Tourism Board, created a replica of a Votive limestone relief that bears worship and banquet scenes from the archaeological site of Golgoi in Cyprus which is exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The project aimed to deliver a realistic replica of the relief, both aesthetically and qualitatively in colour, weight, and texture.
On Sunday, May 8, 2022, Europe-Direct Nicosia - University of Cyprus organised a celebration for Europe Day in Eleftheria Square , which is celebrated every year by all the member states of the European Union, on May 9. A common message from the participants was that Europe must emerge stronger through what is happening in Ukraine, while emphasising the need to uphold universal values such as freedom and democracy.
On Monday, 2nd of May 2022, The Cyprus Institute (CyI) via the Climate and Atmosphere Research Centre (CARE-C), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Israel Meteorological Service (IMS), agreeing to reinforce their collaboration on issues of common interest, in assessing and understanding the impacts of Climate Change.
The University also shares the #1 position in Cyprus and Greece for its overall social and economic impact, according to the 2022 Times Higher Education Impact Rankings. The 2022 Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings once again rank the University of Nicosia (UNIC) in the Top 40 universities globally, recognising it as the number 36 university in the world in Quality Education. Moreover, the results place UNIC in the #1 position in Cyprus and in the #2 position in Cyprus and Greece, and among the Top 15 universities in the European Union, in this core area.
On Friday, May 6, 2022, the European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, Ms. Mariya Gabriel, and the Permanent Secretary of the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy (DMRID), Dr. Stelios D. Himonas, along with the Head of the European Commission's Representation in Cyprus, Ms. Myrto Zambarta, the Head of the Commissioner’s Cabinet, Ms. Pauline Rouch, the Chief Scientist of Research and Innovation of the Republic of Cyprus, Dr. Nikolas Mastroyiannopoulos, the Head of Deputy Minister Office, Ms. Kyriaki Pantziarou, the Planning Officer A’ of the DMRID, Mr. Christos Aspris, and the Scientific Officer of the DMRID, Ms. Eleana Gabriel, visited CyI’s premises in Aglantzia, Nicosia.
