On Wednesday, May 11, 2022, STARC Assistant Professor Efthymia Nikita was among the nine scholars who received a Dan David Prize in the award ceremony held at Tel Aviv University. The Dan David Prize awards up to 9 prizes of $300,000 each year to outstanding early and mid-career scholars and practitioners in the historical disciplines. The Prize is given in recognition of the winners’ contribution to the study of the past and to support their future endeavors. It is currently the largest history prize in the world. Dr Nikita was selected among 400 nominees and was actually the only archaeologist among the nine winners.
Lack of physical activity in the elderly can lead to many health problems and increase the risk of developing chronic diseases. On the contrary, the participation of the elderly in exercise programmes is vital as it promotes health and prolongs their life expectancy, while improving the quality of life and independent living of these individuals.
The 1st annual meeting was held by the MEDISKIN Project Cooperation Network, in which the Cyprus University of Technology (TEPAK) also participates.
The Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) and specifically the Assistant Professor at the Department of Public Communication of the University, Lia Spyridou coordinates the research project DEMOTEC, which is funded by the European programme Horizon 2020.
A new impressive building is being constructed on the University Campus, with a donation of € 9 million from the Idryma Nikou kai Elpidas Siakola, the foundation stone of which was laid on Wednesday, May 11, 2022 by the President of the Republic, Mr. Nikos Anastasiadis. This is the Nikos K. Medical School and Health Sciences Siakolas" Building, which will bear the name of its benefactor, with a total gross area of 8,500 sq.m.
