Frederick University: With an upgraded role in the network of European Universities EU CONEXUS
The final proposal of the Network of European Universities EU CONEXUS, for the continuation of the consortium for another four years, was submitted to the European Commission on March 23rd. Frederick University is a full member of the EU CONEXUS Network with eight other universities in Europe, with the aim of Intelligent Sustainable Management of the Urban Coastal Zone.
"Our University team, consisting of 25 members of the academic and administrative staff, worked with our partner teams for the final proposal and we are very proud of the result", says the Rector of the University, Professor George Demosthenous. "We participated in the writing of the final proposal, in the work packages and we had a substantial contribution in the writing of the" Joint Declaration of Vision and Mission "of the new consortium called EU CONEXUS Plus, which was approved at the recent meeting of the Governing Board. We expect that until next September its continuation will be approved for another four years and that we will be the first non-state university in Cyprus to receive the relevant sponsorship, amounting to 100 thousand euros, as decided by the Council of Ministers on February 9, 2022, for each university that ensures participation in a consortium of European Universities ".
Prof. Demosthenes and Dr. Christoforos Charalambous, Vice-President of the University Council, participated in the recent meeting of the Executive Board of EU CONEXUS (16-3-2022), during which, in addition, the budget and the organisational structure were approved. consortium. "The purpose of EU CONEXUS for sustainable and sustainable urban coastal development is a crucial field of action that directly concerns our University and the research conducted in this direction," said Dr. Charalambous. "In this context, we can only express our satisfaction with the leadership assignment of two important work packages: the Training for Teaching Community package (EU-CONEXUS Teaching Academy) and the Green Campus."
It is worth noting that, following a suggestion by Frederick University, the proposal includes as partners the Municipality of Limassol, the Municipality of Ayia Napa and the Cyprus Ports Authority who have expressed interest in joining the consortium. The other members of the Consortium warmly welcomed the participation of the three new partners from Cyprus, as they are expected to be involved in various activities of the network by hosting events, supporting activities, participating in the so-called living labs and other innovative actions for education and research in the field of intelligent sustainable coastal urban management. In this context, the holding of the second major cultural festival of the consortium in Cyprus, in 2025, has already been unanimously approved.
The next meeting of the EU CONEXUS Executive Board will take place in Bucharest on 6 April 2022. A major Research Conference will take place in Athens in June to set out in detail the consortium's research priorities, covering the full range of fields. research of a modern university. Υποβλήθηκε στις 23 Μαρτίου στην Ευρωπαϊκή Επιτροπή η τελική πρόταση του Δικτύου Ευρωπαϊκών Πανεπιστημίων EU CONEXUS, για τη συνέχιση της κοινοπραξίας για άλλα τέσσερα χρόνια. Το Πανεπιστήμιο Frederick συμμετέχει ως πλήρες μέλος στο Δίκτυο EU CONEXUS με άλλα οκτώ πανεπιστήμια της Ευρώπης, με σκοπό την Ευφυή Αειφόρο Διαχείριση της Αστικής Παράκτιας Ζώνης.
«Ομάδα του Πανεπιστημίου μας, αποτελούμενη από 25 μέλη του ακαδημαϊκού και διοικητικού προσωπικού, εργάστηκε με τις ομάδες των εταίρων μας για την τελική πρόταση και είμαστε πολύ περήφανοι για το αποτέλεσμα», αναφέρει ο Πρύτανης του Πανεπιστημίου, Καθηγητής Γιώργος Δημοσθένους. «Συμμετείχαμε στη συγγραφή της τελικής πρότασης, στα πακέτα εργασίας και είχαμε ουσιαστική συμβολή στη συγγραφή της «Κοινής Δήλωσης Οράματος και Αποστολής» της νέας κοινοπραξίας με την ονομασία EU CONEXUS Plus, η οποία εγκρίθηκε στην πρόσφατη συνεδρία του Ανώτατου Εκτελεστικού Συμβουλίου (Governing Board). Αναμένουμε πως μέχρι τον ερχόμενο Σεπτέμβριο θα εγκριθεί η συνέχισή της για ακόμη τέσσερα χρόνια και πως θα είμαστε το πρώτο μη κρατικό πανεπιστήμιο στην Κύπρο που θα τύχει και της σχετικής χορηγίας, ύψους 100 χιλιάδων ευρώ, όπως αποφασίστηκε από το Υπουργικό Συμβούλιο στις 9 Φεβρουαρίου 2022, για κάθε πανεπιστήμιο που εξασφαλίζει συμμετοχή σε κοινοπραξία Ευρωπαϊκών Πανεπιστημίων».
Ο Καθ. Δημοσθένους και ο Δρ Χριστόφορος Χαραλάμπους, Αντιπρόεδρος του Συμβουλίου του Πανεπιστημίου, συμμετείχαν στην πρόσφατη συνεδρία του Ανώτατου Εκτελεστικού Συμβουλίου του EU CONEXUS (16-3-2022), στη διάρκεια της οποίας εγκρίθηκαν, επιπλέον, ο προϋπολογισμός και η οργανωτική δομή της κοινοπραξίας. «Ο σκοπός του EU CONEXUS για την αειφόρο και βιώσιμη αστική παράκτια ανάπτυξη αποτελεί ένα νευραλγικής σημασίας πεδίο δράσης το οποίο αφορά άμεσα το Πανεπιστήμιό μας και την έρευνα που διεξάγεται προς αυτή την κατεύθυνση», αναφέρει ο Δρ Χαραλάμπους. «Σε αυτό το πλαίσιο, δεν μπορούμε παρά να εκφράσουμε την ικανοποίησή μας για την ανάθεση της ηγεσίας δύο σημαντικών πακέτων εργασίας: του πακέτου Training for Teaching Community (EU-CONEXUS Teaching Academy) και του Green Campus.»
Αξίζει να τονιστεί ότι, ύστερα από εισήγηση του Πανεπιστημίου Frederick, στην πρόταση περιλαμβάνονται ως associated partners ο Δήμος Λεμεσού, ο Δήμος Αγίας Νάπας και η Αρχή Λιμένων Κύπρου που εξέφρασαν το ενδιαφέρον τους να ενταχθούν στην κοινοπραξία. Τα υπόλοιπα μέλη της Κοινοπραξίας υποδέχθηκαν με θέρμη το ενδεχόμενο συμμετοχής των τριών νέων εταίρων από την Κύπρο, καθώς αναμένεται να εμπλακούν σε διάφορες δράσεις του δικτύου με τη φιλοξενία εκδηλώσεων, την υποστήριξη δραστηριοτήτων, τη συμμετοχή στα λεγόμενα living labs και σε άλλες καινοτόμες δράσεις για την εκπαίδευση και την έρευνα στο πεδίο της ευφυούς αειφόρου διαχείρισης της παράκτιας αστικής ζώνης. Σε αυτό το πλαίσιο εγκρίθηκε ήδη ομόφωνα η διεξαγωγή του δεύτερου μεγάλου πολιτιστικού φεστιβάλ της κοινοπραξίας στην Κύπρο, το 2025.
Η επόμενη συνάντηση του Ανώτατου Εκτελεστικού Συμβουλίου του EU CONEXUS θα πραγματοποιηθεί στο Βουκουρέστι στις 6 Απριλίου 2022. Τον Ιούνιο θα λάβει χώρα στην Αθήνα ένα μεγάλο Συνέδριο Έρευνας στο οποίο θα καθοριστούν με λεπτομέρεια οι ερευνητικές προτεραιότητες της κοινοπραξίας, που θα καλύπτουν όλο το φάσμα των πεδίων έρευνας ενός σύγχρονου πανεπιστημίου. Το Πανεπιστήμιο Frederick θα συμμετάσχει με πολυμελή αντιπροσωπεία.
