The Open University of Cyprus takes part in the research project “Immersive Technologies for Education”

The Open University of Cyprus (OUC) is a member of the consortium to implement the new research project "Immersive Technologies for Education (ImTech4Ed)".

The project has been granted funding of approximately 450,000 Euro by the Erasmus+ Programme for the period 2020-23. Its main goal is to promote the uptake of immersive technologies (e.g. augmented and virtual reality, digital games) in education, and to facilitate interdisciplinary and international collaboration among students, educators, and researchers from the fields of Education, Game Design and Informatics, in order to deliver creative and valuable prototypes for immersive educational solutions, and to evaluate them in real teaching situations at connected schools. An additional goal is to establish a network of interested partners, and to facilitate international cooperation for the integration of new technologies in education in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics (STEAM).

The direct impact of the ImTech4Ed project is on participating students, pupils, teachers, educators, and researchers in broadening their view and their understanding of interdisciplinary approaches and collaborative international work towards the creation of immersive educational technologies, in particular in the fields of Education, Game Design and Informatics. However, the long-term benefits of this project go beyond its mere outputs: as a matter of fact, the project fosters interdisciplinary thinking towards the envisioning, design, and creation of immersive educational technologies, and aims at improving the way these technologies are created and brought into educational practice in a sustainable way.

The project is coordinated by the Cologne Game Lab of the Technische Hochschule Köln (Germany), and the consortium comprises of the OUC, the European University of Cyprus, the International Hellenic University, the Ellinogermaniki Agogi School (Greece), the English School of Nicosia (Cyprus), and the German company Humance AG.

The Open University of Cyprus (OUC), which offers exclusively distance education, extensively incorporates new technologies in its teaching and learning practices. The scientific coordinator of the OUC team in ImTech4Ed is the Head of the Information Communication, Technologies and Library Unit, Stathis Mavrotheris.

Ανοικτό Πανεπιστήμιο Κύπρου: «Immersive Technologies for Education»: Νέο ερευνητικό έργο με τη συμμετοχή του ΑΠΚΥ

Κύριος στόχος του ερευνητικού έργου «Immersive Technologies for Education (ImTech4Ed)», το οποίο έλαβε χρηματοδότηση 450.000 Ευρώ από το Πρόγραμμα Erasmus+ για την περίοδο 2020-23, και στο οποίο συμμετέχει το Ανοικτό Πανεπιστήμιο Κύπρου (ΑΠΚΥ), είναι η ενίσχυση συνεργασιών στα πεδία της Εκπαίδευσης, του σχεδιασμού παιχνιδιών και της Πληροφορικής, για την αξιοποίηση νέων τεχνολογιών στην εκπαίδευση Φυσικών Επιστημών, Τεχνολογίας, Μηχανικής, Τεχνών και Μαθηματικών (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics – STEAM).

Στο πλαίσιο του έργου θα διαμορφωθεί μέσω διεπιστημονικού συμμετοχικού σχεδιασμού ένα πρόγραμμα επαγγελματικής ανάπτυξης εκπαιδευτικών για την αποτελεσματική αξιοποίηση αναδυόμενων τεχνολογιών στην εκπαίδευση με την προσέγγιση STEAM. Πρότυπα εκπαιδευτικών εφαρμογών με παιχνίδια σοβαρού σκοπού θα δοκιμαστούν σε πραγματικές συνθήκες μέσω στοχευμένων εκπαιδευτικών σεναρίων, για την εμπειρική διερεύνηση συγκεκριμένων ερευνητικών ερωτημάτων αναφορικά με την αποτελεσματικότητα της προσέγγισης.

Το έργο συντονίζεται από το Technische Hochschule Köln (Γερμανία) και συμμετέχουν ως εταίροι, εκτός από το ΑΠΚΥ, το Ευρωπαϊκό Πανεπιστήμιο Κύπρου, το Διεθνές Πανεπιστήμιο της Ελλάδος, τα Εκπαιδευτήρια «Ελληνογερμανική Αγωγή», η Αγγλική Σχολή Λευκωσίας (English School), και η γερμανική εταιρεία Humance AG.

Το Ανοικτό Πανεπιστήμιο Κύπρου (ΑΠΚΥ), το οποίο για την Εξ Αποστάσεως Εκπαίδευση αξιοποιεί εκτεταμένα νέες τεχνολογίες στις διδακτικές και μαθησιακές διαδικασίες του, συμμετέχει στο έργο με συντονιστή τον Προϊστάμενο της Μονάδας Πληροφορικής, Τεχνολογιών και Βιβλιοθήκης, Στάθη Μαυροθέρη.
