CYPRUS UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY (CUT): EUROPEAN PROJECT “GLAMers” AIMED AT STREGHENING CULTURAL INSTITUTIONS IN THE MIDST OF THE PANDEMIC

The inaugural, online, event of the European project entitled "GLAMers: Enhancing GLAMs through youth engagement during the COVID-19 crisis" took place on Friday, 26 of March, 2021.

The coordinator of the new European project Erasmus + KA2 is the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT), through the Digital Heritage Lab of the Cyprus University of Technology, which is hosting the UNESCO and European Research Area (ERA) Chairs on Digital Cultural Heritage.

The project aims to strengthen cultural institutions, through youth participation activities, including Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums, the initials of which are the title of the project in English (GLAMs: Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums). The majority of these cultural institutions was unprepared to deal with the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic so they were greatly affected.

Consequently, the GLAMers project has the following 4 main objectives:

1. The publication of a study that will bring together practices adopted by cultural organisations in order to involve the public and especially young people in their activities, in times of pandemic. The study will be enriched with an analysis of the challenges and opportunities presented by the participation of young people in order to stimulate the cultural space.
2. Create an open access digital collection of at least 30 digital resources, 5 online training courses and 8 digital seminars aimed at cultural institutions and youth organisations. These training programmes will have a national and pan-European scope as they will be conducted in the languages ​​of the partners, namely Greek, English, Croatian and French.
3. The empowerment of cultural institutions with knowledge on dealing with the pandemic through the participation of the (young) public. At least 5 events will take place across Europe. All events will be held in compliance with all necessary protection and prevention measures against the spread of the pandemic.
4. To highlight that the youth can be part of the solution to the current coronavirus crisis through their active participation in cultural events, which help cultural actors recover from the crisis caused by the pandemic around the world which has has greatly affected the cultural sector.

This project is funded by Erasmus+ and the National Agency of the Applicant Organisation, specifically by the “Youth Board of Cyprus” with a total budget of € 221,744 and duration 24 months.

The consortium consists of the Cyprus University of Technology, which is the coordinator of the project, the Non-Profit Organisation NGO (Citizens in Power), Cyprus, a small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) of open and social learning Web2Learn, Greece, a national Museum (Museum of Arts and Crafts, Museum of Arts and Crafts, Croatia) and a pan-European network of cultural organisations (Michael Culture Association, Belgium).

ΤΕΧΝΟΛΟΓΙΚΟ ΠΑΝΕΠΙΣΤΗΜΙΟ ΚΥΠΡΟΥ (ΤΕΠΑΚ): ΕΥΡΩΠΑΪΚΟ ΕΡΓΟ «GLAMERS» ΜΕ ΣΤΟΧΟ ΤΗΝ ΕΝΙΣΧΥΣΗ ΤΩΝ ΦΟΡΕΩΝ ΤΟΥ ΠΟΛΙΤΙΣΜΟΥ ΕΝ ΜΕΣΩ ΠΑΝΔΗΜΙΑΣ

Η εναρκτήρια, διαδικτυακή, εκδήλωση του ευρωπαϊκού έργου με την ονομασία «GLAMers: Enhancing GLAMs through youth engagement during the COVID-19 crisis» πραγματοποιήθηκε την Παρασκευή, 26 Μαρτίου 2021.

Ο συντονιστής του νέου Ευρωπαϊκού έργου Erasmus+ KA2 είναι το Τεχνολογικό Πανεπιστήμιο Κύπρου (ΤΕΠΑΚ), μέσω του Εργαστηρίου Ψηφιακής Πολιτιστικής Κληρονομιάς του Πανεπιστημίου, το οποίο κατέχει τις έδρες της ΟΥΝΕΣΚΟ  και του Ενιαίου Ευρωπαϊκού Ερευνητικού Χώρου στην Ψηφιακή Πολιτιστική Κληρονομιά.

Το έργο αφορά στην ενίσχυση των φορέων του πολιτισμού, μέσω δράσεων νεανικής συμμετοχής, συμπεριλαμβανομένων των Πινακοθηκών, των Βιβλιοθηκών, των Αρχείων και των Μουσείων, τα αρχικά των οποίων αποτελούν και τον τίτλο του έργου στην αγγλική γλώσσα (GLAMs: Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums). Οι φορείς ήταν στην πλειοψηφία τους απροετοίμαστοι να αντιμετωπίσουν τις επιπτώσεις της πανδημίας του COVID-19 με αποτέλεσμα να έχουν επηρεαστεί σε μεγάλο βαθμό.

Ως εκ τούτου, το έργο «GLAMers» έχει τους 4 παρακάτω βασικούς στόχους:

1. Τη δημοσίευση μιας μελέτης  που θα συγκεντρώνει πρακτικές που υιοθετούν πολιτιστικοί οργανισμοί με σκοπό τη συμμετοχή του κοινού και κυρίως των νέων στις δραστηριότητές τους, σε καιρούς πανδημίας. Η μελέτη θα εμπλουτιστεί με μια ανάλυση των προκλήσεων και των ευκαιριών που εμφανίζει η συμμετοχή των νέων με σκοπό την τόνωση του χώρου του πολιτισμού.
2. Να δημιουργηθεί μια ψηφιακή συλλογή ανοιχτής πρόσβασης τουλάχιστον 30 ψηφιακών πηγών, 5 μαθημάτων διαδικτυακής κατάρτισης και 8 ψηφιακών σεμιναρίων τα οποία να απευθύνονται σε φορείς πολιτισμού και οργανισμούς νεολαίας. Αυτά τα εκπαιδευτικά προγράμματα θα έχουν εθνική και πανευρωπαϊκή εμβέλεια καθώς θα πραγματοποιούνται στις γλώσσες των εταίρων, δηλαδή τα Ελληνικά, τα Αγγλικά, τα Κροατικά και τα Γαλλικά.
3. Την ενδυνάμωση των φορέων πολιτισμού με γνώσεις πάνω στην αντιμετώπιση της πανδημίας μέσω της συμμετοχής του (νεανικού) κοινού. Τουλάχιστον 5 εκδηλώσεις θα πραγματοποιηθούν σε όλη την Ευρώπη. Όλες οι εκδηλώσεις θα πραγματοποιηθούν τηρώντας όλα τα απαραίτητα μέτρα προστασίας και πρόληψης ενάντια στην εξάπλωση της πανδημίας.
4. Να αναδείξει ότι η νεολαία μπορεί να αποτελέσει μέρος της λύσης της τρέχουσας κρίσης του κορωνοϊού μέσω της ενεργούς συμμετοχής τους σε πολιτιστικές εκδηλώσεις, οι οποίες  βοηθούν τους φορείς πολιτισμού να ανακάμψουν από την κρίση που προκάλεσε η πανδημία ανά την υφήλιο και έχει επηρεάσει σε μεγάλο βαθμό και τον χώρο του πολιτισμού.

Το έργο χρηματοδοτείται από το Erasmus+ και την Εθνική Υπηρεσία του Αιτούντος Οργανισμού, συγκεκριμένα από το «Συμβούλιο Νεολαίας Κύπρου» (Youth Board of Cyprus) με συνολικό προϋπολογισμό €221.744 και διάρκεια 24 μήνες.

Η κοινοπραξία αποτελείται από το Τεχνολογικό Πανεπιστήμιο Κύπρου που είναι ο συντονιστής του έργου, τον Μη Κερδοσκοπικό Οργανισμό (ΜΚΟ) Citizens In Power / Πολίτες σε Ισχύ, Κύπρος, μια μικρομεσαία επιχείρηση(ΜμΕ) ανοιχτής και κοινωνικής μάθησης Web2Learn, Ελλάδα, ένα μουσείο εθνικής εμβέλειας Museum of Arts and Crafts / Μουσείο Τεχνών και Χειροτεχνίας, Κροατία και ένα πανευρωπαϊκό δίκτυο πολιτιστικών οργανώσεων (Michael Culture Association, Βέλγιο).
