Graphene Flagship 2019 Annual Report on achievements and new directions

The 2019 annual report provides insight into the main achievements and success stories, covering topics from basic research and electronics to energy and healthcare applications.

As the Graphene Flagship enters its fourth funding cycle, the Dissemination Work Package team collected the highlights of 2019 in a well-illustrated Annual Report to make the project results more accessible for the general public. The document covers accomplishments achieved in various fields of application such as energy, composites and production, electronics, photonics and medicine. In addition to providing an overview of the advances of last year, the Annual Report contains projections of the next couple of years regarding new directions and highlighted areas that the Graphene Flagship partners, associated members and partnering projects focus on.

Graphene and other 2D-materials can have a key role towards solving many societal challenges of our times and have a huge industry- and market revolutionising potential that has already been presented in the industry white paper recently published on graphene and 2D material. The Annual Report provides examples of innovative applications, for instance the creation of the first graphene-based retinal implants, durable graphene-enabled silicon batteries for wearables, small electronic devices and graphene patches that provide individualised and remote treatment for chronic wounds.

The document also gives detailed descriptions of how the research initiative actively supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the European Union’s Green Deal.
